The layering trend is sweeping the perfume industry, and we're happy about that. To find out how to choose your perfume, we'll decipher this new beauty trend that you'll find hard to live without!
What is perfume layering?
Layering (from the English word "layer" meaning "layers" or "superpositions") involves combining several fragrances to create a unique scent. This blend of scents allows you to create a custom scent, without resorting to a luxury service known for being overpriced. In other words, we happily mix the different perfumes we have in our closet to invent our own olfactory signature. Perfume yourself with a fragrance that no one else can wear—what a dream, right?
Perfume: the different types of layering
Classic layering
In perfumery, this technique involves layering or simultaneously using several cosmetic products on the body. Body lotion or cream, shower gel, deodorant, and even perfume: we multiply the exquisitely scented treatments to envelop ourselves in a fragrant bubble. One thing is certain: you won't leave anyone indifferent!
Layering in the Middle East
In this part of the world, layering is a common practice used by both women and men. The beauty ritual in the Middle East? A musk-based cream is applied to the body, then a fragrance of one's own composition, known as bakhour, is applied: an oud-based perfume is mixed with another fragrance of one's choice.
Our tips for successful layering
Here are some tips for a successful perfume mix and match:
- Reinforce the oriental character of a perfume: add a note of vanilla.
- Bring freshness to a fragrance: we think of hesperides and their citrus notes.
- Accentuate a note within the same olfactory family: add pure vanilla to an already vanilla-flavored oriental juice.
- Focus on good olfactory associations: floral fragrances go very well with flowery perfumes, spicy juices love vanilla accords.
- Limit yourself to two superimposed fragrances.
Accessible to everyone, perfume layering allows you to create a unique fragrance in just a few spritzes. However, it's best to know a few golden rules before you get started! Need advice on choosing a perfume that matches your personality? Follow the guide!
